Well here we are in the last week of the Animanga Festival, and I’ve kind of failed in keeping up. But I think this week’s prompt is really neat.
I also wanted to thank Auri and Nairne at Manga Toritsukareru Koto for letting me jump in on a few of these. I love the idea of celebrating other bloggers and celebrating the community and celebrating things that you like.
Why else would I have a blog about anime?
But that brings me to my main conundrum. I don’t really aspire to be a single blogger. What I do aspire to is having certain traits of a lot of different bloggers.
So here it is. This is my list of bloggers I admire and the traits I admire them for. (Yes I realize this is a cop out and a group hug, but I don’t care.)
First a shout out to some of the old hands out there. I really admire Thaliarchus who used to run a site called The Animanachronism. I mean the guy actually knows how to translate Latin.
As someone who spent a lot of my childhood being told I was smart, I spend a lot of time realizing that I’m not as smart as I thought I was. His stuff is old now, but I still remember his first post about Armored Troopers VOTOMS. That stuff was brilliant.
Batezi also fits into this category. He knows way more about film theory then I do and is just better able to frame his thoughts.
Then there was Michael over at Anime|Otaku (I think). He gave me two pieces of perspective I think every anime fan should have. The first is that there are anime fans in countries where they don’t get normal releases. The second is being friendly and outgoing is something that everyone should try more and reject less.
On a more current front, I admire Scott over at Mechanical Anime Reviews for being seriously consistent. Writing on the Internet often feels like shouting into the void and hoping that someone hears you. There are times when I’m happy that I get three clicks on my post, and when I get a like, it just feels validating. Scott was the first to do that when I came back to this, and I find him everywhere.
I really wish I could be more like that, but I don’t read as much as I should and I talk more than I ought to.
I admire Ospreyshire over at Iridium Eye and Ospreyshire’s Realm for finding super obscure movies that I’ve never heard of. That is a skill I do not have. I stumbled across Blue Comet Layzner the other week and I thought I was effing brilliant.
That brings me to Keiko, who I admire because of her commitment and consistency. I’m going to put Irina, Karandi and every other blogger who I see their posts come into my email every day. I don’t comment as much as I should, but I really appreciate that you always have new content, it’s always well thought out, and that you’re nice to engage with.
I also admire Dominic who is trying to live the freelancing life with a kid. I don’t really talk about my job, but I do know that the freelance life is hard, like really hard. Cheers to both you and Elisabeth. Stuff is hard. You guys make it work.
Also I’m sorry if I forgot anyone else that I admire. If your name isn’t on this list it’s not because I don’t admire you. In the end, I admire anyone who wants to bring their voice to the world and talk about what they love.
Because isn’t that what this is all about.
Anyways, thanks for reading.
